    Out and About

    Great sandy beaches

The Island of Lanzarote has some beautiful beaches and most of the best beaches are in the area of Playa Blanca. The cove beaches of Papagayo just along the coast from the small seaside town of Playa Blanca are some of the best bathing beaches in the whole of the Canary Islands. These beaches where once the home of a few hippies back in the 70’s who set up home in the caves above the beach for most of the winter months. However the Hippies have gone and now holiday mackers from all over Europe have taken there place. Still today a few people decide to go with the hipie way of life and spend there days sunbathing naked on these beautiful beaches. The beach in Playa Blanca itself is a cresent of soft powder sand with good safe bathing. Many of the other beaches on the Island are man made and offer all tourist facilities. Arrieta lies on the north west coast of Lanzarote. Here is a small selection of beaches with a rocky and wild sea, this area is popular with wind surfers and water sports enthusiasts. Great place to enjoy a delicious Pallela in one of the local seafront restaurants.

    Activities and Sports.

    Kite Surfing.
Lanzarote has perfect kite surfing conditions from the of march through to end October. The area to the north of the Island is where all the surfing schools are based. They offer programmes from beginner to advanced and have all the up to date equipment for hire. The schools are all Iko registered and extremely well run.

    Surfing and Windsurfing.
The Island has fantastic condition for advanced surfers and windsurfers throughout the winter months. This is when the conditions are perfect to bring in the rollers and also with great reliable wind conditions. There are a number of schools in various locations around the Island, all have top of the range equipment for hire and can offer professional tuition at whatever level from beginner to advanced.

    Sailing.
From the Marina Rubicon it possible to hire catamarans and various types of sailing dingies depending on your level of experience. There is a good sailing school that offers tuition courses from beginners to advanced and you can also hire an experienced sailor to come along with you if your feeling a rusty.

    Fishing.
The waters around Lanzarote have some big fish and this can be an exciting day out for the experienced or novice fisherman. Tuna, Marlin, Shark and Wahoo are just some of the big game fish that you may be lucky to catch, there are a number of big game fishing charters available from the Marinas. The season runs from May to November. Day trips start from around 75 euro Including lunch and hotel pick up.

    Diving Schools
There is a dive school based in Playa Blanca which has expert tuition and specialises in teaching children. They have all the most up to date equipment and offer courses for all levels from beginner to the very advanced. The conditions around Lanzarote are some of the best you can find in the canaries, clear water and mild sea temperatures make it ideal. Because of the volcanic history of the Island, it offers some very interesting underwater scenery with lava rivers, caves and unusual rock formations.

    Golf.
There are two courses of on Lanzarote, one situated at Costa Tequise and the other at Puerto Del Carmen. Both courses have some testing holes but in the main they are more for if your missing a round of golf than for Lanzarote to be a golfing destination. However one very good thing to take into account is that there is normally little problem in arranging a tee-time.

    Cycling.
This sport seems to be going from strength to strength. Over the past few years it has gained in popularity and Lanzarote is a perfect destination to enjoy this particular sport. The Island is mainly flat with a good quality road network that isn’t over run with traffic. The mild winter months are probably the best time to enjoy as during the summer it can reach as high as 35-40c. Cycle tours are also organised on the Island. Various types of bike hire are available.

    Restaurants, bars and nightlife.
Playa Blanca has a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants. Should you be looking for a good Paella, a nice bowl of Pasta or some Chinese food it is possible to find all of these things in this resort. We have put together a number of establishments that have a good reputation for what they offer. This will be a combination of style, location, service and above all good value. We hope this is of some help.

La Chanlantia Avda Maritima 73, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
This restaurant doesn’t look so good from the seafront entrance but once you go upstairs with its lovely terrace you will be glad you’ve gone in. As for the food. Great steaks, suckling pig and baby lamb are all specialities of the house. [ some of these dishes have to be ordered in advance ]

Real Italian food here in Playa Blanca. Great risotto’s, pastas and delicious fish and meat main courses. The desserts are just as good. Great views and sensible prices all add to the attraction of this restaurant

    Nightlife.
Playa Blanca is a laid back chilled-out resort. It has a good selection of cafes and a number of bars that can get quite lively during high season. However if your looking for some serious night time action then a visit to the resort of Puerto Del Carmen is a good option. Here there are a large number of music bars and a number of clubs/discos that go on into the small hours.
